An upcoming television series adapted from deaf author Sara Novic’s book, “True Biz,” will star deaf actress Millicent Simmonds.
“True Biz” TV show
“True Biz” tells the story of Deaf teenager Charlie as she attempts to gain access to spoken language. It also features her relationship with the hearing headmistress at her deaf boarding school. The headmistress is a child of deaf adults (CODA). The story is set in a blue-collar Midwestern small town. Charlie’s journey takes her on a roller coaster ride of emotions as she struggles to find herself.
“As soon as I read “True Biz,” I knew I had to jump at the chance to collaborate with a Deaf creator on a project with an authentic and fresh perspective of the Deaf community,” Simmonds told Deadline. “[I] am equally excited to portray a deaf teenage protagonist never before seen on screen. This project will be a truly unique opportunity to work with deaf professionals both in front and behind the camera.”
